Odisha is regarded as one of the backward state of India. A lot of programmes related to developments are coming in. many of the schemes are being implemented by government and non government agencies. But as per result is concerned, there is no significant change in the situation of the mass. Most of the projects reported as “failed” due to lack of proper planning, misallocation of resources, implication of inappropriate technology, ineffective training methodology and above all lack of public participation. All these happened due to lack of planning which indicates to proper situation analysis and research before starting a programme. Keeping in view of this, some lead development professionals, researchers and media professionals from Odisha felt the need for a research based organization with primary focus in the development of the community in 2009. With respect to their opinion, Organisation for Social Research and Development (OSRD) was constituted by a group of intellectuals to cater to the development organizations through communication research and training.Though new, OSRD is working in a mission mode and hopes to contribute in the development process of the region.
